Metta Rooms is committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for all users. Our protocol was built to deter and auto-report discrimination online, and we’ve removed over 500 people from Metta Rooms for declining to treat others without judgement or bias. However, we know that discrimination still happens, so we’re introducing some new ways to fight it. First, we’re launching an awareness campaign to educate our users about the importance of treating others with respect. Second, we’re adding more staff to our moderation team, so that we can more quickly remove discriminatory content. Finally, we’re partnered with a number of organizations that work to combat discrimination, and we’ll be sharing their resources with our community.
We believe that these steps will make Metta Rooms a more inclusive space for everyone.
Project Detr: finding & fighting discrimination on Metta
Metta Rooms is committed to providing a discrimination-free platform for everyone. To that end, we’re launching Project Detr, a groundbreaking initiative to uncover, measure, and overcome discrimination when booking or hosting on Metta Rooms. Project Detr will use data and machine learning to identify patterns of discrimination, and we’ll work with law enforcement, policymakers, and civil rights organizations to address them. We believe that by working together, we can make Metta Rooms a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Built to uncover discrimination
Project Detr is a new initiative that will address discrimination that’s based on perception—and on Metta Rooms, people perceive race from things like first names and profile photos. Together, with civil rights organizations like Color Of Change and Upturn, we’re beginning with research to understand when and where racial discrimination happens on our platform and the effectiveness of policies that fight it. We’re committed to making Metta Rooms a safe and welcoming space for everyone, and this project is an important step in that direction.
